Milwaukee Co. Republican Party endorses Brett Davis for lieutenant governor

State Representative Brett Davis’s campaign for Lieutenant Governor announced the endorsement of the Milwaukee County Republican Party this week.

“I am proud the Milwaukee County Party Republican Party has taken a stand in supporting Brett Davis for Lieutenant Governor,” said Milwaukee County Republican Party Chairman Davis Karst. “Brett Davis is the right person for the job. While there are a number of other candidates in the race Brett Davis is best positioned to help our next Republican Governor win a tough election battle. Once in office Brett will finally make the office of Lieutenant Governor relevant again by reducing wasteful government spending.”

Davis has based his campaign for Lieutenant Governor on a pledge to transform the position into the leading taxpayer watchdog in the state with the chief mission of rooting out waste, fraud and abuse. Each year Davis serves as Lieutenant Governor he will propose to eliminate an amount equal to at least 100 times the Lieutenant Governor’s office budget in wasteful government spending. The 2011 operations budget for the Office of Lieutenant Governor is currently $390,800. Under Davis’ formula he would propose nearly $40 million in government spending cuts during his first year in office.

Davis was elected to his south central Wisconsin Assembly District as one of the youngest members of the Legislature in 2004. Despite liberal special interest groups spending over a million dollars attacking him, Davis managed to win reelection twice in a district where President Barack Obama took 64% of the vote.

“I plan to work hard with conservatives from all across Wisconsin to turn our state around,” said Brett Davis. “I am honored to have the grassroots support of the Milwaukee County Republican Party. With their help I will spread the word about my plan to reform the office of lieutenant governor so we can eliminate wasteful government spending and cut taxes.”

Why would you endorse Davis? You can’t seriously think he’ll reduce wasteful spending when he voted in favor of Governor Doyle’s budget? How about endorsing someone with a proven track record of eliminating wasteful spending, shrinking government, reducing debt, all the while making Superior the second fastest adjusted growth city in Wisconsin?

You missed the boat here and endorsed the wrong person.
