About
I love politics. I follow politics like most people follow their favorite sports teams. I love to talk politics and I love to debate politics. Last year, one of my greatest joys this past year was teaching my current events class at Rock County Christian School. Though it was hard for me not to give my opinions in that class, I sill enjoyed just informing people about what was going on.
However, there is one aspect of all this that I do not enjoy. Every election I always get the same question over and over again – who should I vote for? This question troubles me because it shows that people are not informed and do not care to be until the very last minute and then find themselves completely dependent upon my opinions. Normally I do endorse candidates I feel strongly about, but most of the time I try not so much to answer the question but instead point them to some information so they can make up their own mind.
This election year, I have created this blog for that purpose. On this blog you will find the information that I feel is important when asking that big question – who should I vote for? I will also be including information dealing with this election that I just find interesting. But, don’t worry, I will be adding my own thoughts and opinions from time to time.
I will be limiting this blog, for now, to the elections I will be involved with. This means I will be covering campaigns here in Wisconsin and more particularly Rock County – both statewide and local. Blog post will range from news article links, press releases from the candidates, candidate surveys, and my own pictures videos, interviews and eventually endorsements.
Warning: I may not cover all of the candidates on the ballot. As this is my blog, I reserve the right to discuss candidates and viewpoints that interest me. I am not an objective, impartial reporter.
I hope this helps you with your decision.
Kevin
I stumbled upon your blog site, nice work, keep it up.
I thought I would toss an idea at you as you look at and comment on candidates this year. I am what I thought was a Republican, I say that as I really don’t know any more. The Republicans during the Bush era, and now, have become something I don’t think I want to be part of. They talk about “being conservative”, yet when they had the chance they spent money like drunken Democrats. They now want to pay for new programs, but when they controlled all houses, they paid for nothing and continued to borrow and add debt. They started two wars which in my mind were uncalled for, and unsustainable, and we had no way to pay for them. Etc. Etc.
I am working with a guy in the 45th District (Jim Reseburg), and I remind him constantly, don’t drink from the “kool aid” trough. Say what you mean, get something done, and don’t campaign 24×7, and don’t confuse campaigning with governing.
We have one guy here who held office for 3 years on a School Board, Jeff Klett, running for Assembly. Passes himself off as conservative, but when he had the chance he: Raised the Boards salary by 380%, putting Beloit’s Board in the top 5 statewide, added numerous programs with no sustainable funding, even order two sets of diplomas so his name could be on his daughter’s diploma (as President) and all other graduates.
Push Conservatives on key issues. I might even suggest we get away from the “Guns, Abortion, and Gays” issues, which do nothing but divide, and maybe gain a few votes, but accomplish little.
We need solutions, and we need people who can get solutions implemented, and not just talk about it. That might even mean, dare I say it, working with both parties, compromising on some issues, but moving us ahead.
Just some thoughts. Keep the posts coming.
Kevin,
Thanks for posting the Dave Ross newsletter so quickly. Dave shares the same faith you obviously share and as a resident of Superior, WI, he’s been an unbelievable mayor. As a social and fiscal conservative, he’s made amazing improvements to the city of Superior, cut the size of the government, and made it a business-friendly city once again. Dave has stood solid in his core beliefs and convictions and is not afraid to fight for the conservative agenda, family values, and other pro-family/pro-life causes.
A man of proven, dependable leadership that is eager to bring Wisconsin back to the forefront. He has the experience to tackle the same problems that face Wisconsin that he faced in Superior. Dave is the only candidate with executive experience in the race for Lieutenant Governor.
Granted; one of his opponents is a wonderful lady but doesn’t have significant government experience. The other major opponent voted for Governor Doyle’s budget which was ranked one of the worst 10 by the Pew Center on States.
Thanks for your support and keep up the good work.
